Monticello Stories

Eleanor Gould

Curator of Gardens

Describe an experience that captures why you love Monticello.

I arrive at work at 7:00 AM, and I am rewarded with stunning early morning light, the quietest, most productive time of day, and a daily reflection on the power of place that Monticello embodies. I love that my job includes hands-on gardening, research, education, documentation, event planning and even snow shoveling! I am fortunate to encounter the seasonality and beauty of Monticello on a daily basis. As a frequent guide for the Revolutionary Garden tour I love to share samples of lesser-known heirloom varieties from the garden for guests to taste. This experience connects visitors to Jefferson and his experimental gardens in a way that is both memorable and dynamic.
